Swiss Embassy

London, United Kingdom, 2022

In early 2022 an international open competition was held for the redevelopment of the Swiss Embassy in London. The proposed design reinstates the building’s representative status through precise interventions. On the outside, a new facade in light grey, hand-crafted bricks gives a contemporary interpretation of the surrounding Georgian architecture, strengthening the embassy’s identity while simultaneously embedding it in its urban context and offering a clear entrance to its users. On the inside, the building’s functionality is improved by clearing up the spaces to create open office floors with clear visual connections, organised around a new elegant terrazzo staircase at the heart of the building. The interior with its light and soft stucco’s and grey washed woods offers a softer and warmer counterpart to the more serene exterior.
